Flyer

The march of my great art business machine continues. As a matter of fact, if I post another business related subject at The Colorist, I will probably hurl. Can I get back to art now, please?

But, I feel the readers here at the Endless Summer Art Fair are perhaps a little more interested in the business side of the house. So, I post here my flyer graphic design. This jewel took me over a week to format and send to print. Why, you may ask?

The bottom line is that I have been twice burned by my recent attempts to get a flyer printed. The biggest issue is that the results of print at even the professional photo lab, from a document self created on my laptop, were either over-saturated colors, or else really bad value and hue outcomes. So, I have been turning myself inside out trying to end-around these problems. I won't bore you with the details of formatting in RGB versus CYMK, rasters, pdf files, ad nauseam.

The current attempt is to just send the high resolution (300 dpi) to Shutterfly and get it printed like a regular photo. I only need a few copies for my gallery packets, so this may be the right path. I'll let you know.

The mission of this flyer is to get my images in front of the gallerist in case they don't open my CD. Think about it. The few enclosures that we typically include may only have one image, or else a few thumbnails. It's very possible that they may get their impression of you before they ever see any art at all.

My packet for galleries will contain:
  • Labeled File Folder
  • Cover Letter
  • Flyer
  • Artist's Statement (Short Version)
  • Resume (Short Version)
  • Slide List (for CD) with Thumbnails
  • CD with images
I may go as far as to include a folder similar to the much touted and extremely nice one shown at ArtBizBlog, created by Deanna Wood. The determinant on that is if I feel that it will go well with the manila file folder idea (my secret weapon), and whether I can get it printed nicely at another printer. At this point, I don't have any other item in my packet jobbed out to a printer, so we'll see if I need to take the extra trouble for that.

Brush with Fame in Sun Valley

We had to wait for all the waivers to be signed, and now I'm ready to post this photo. Remember that I alluded to famous people about at Sun Valley ?

How about this one?Photo: Robin Purcell

Need more reference? Remember this popular video?

View of the Bellevue Fairs

Daniella Woolf, an encaustic artist from Whidbey Island (Washington) has a thorough review of the Bellevue art fairs. Linked here: http://encausticopolis.blogspot.com/.

Her post, Bellevue Art Fairs, isn't linked so look it up on July 29th. I give her extra credit for seeing so much of the shows. I will add that there is a third show in busy Bellevue called the 6th Street Fair, which isn't far from the venues described. The overall effect is that there are about 700+ booths in Bellevue that weekend.
